In Black and Grey: A Season of Change, Transition, and Clarity

This is the season of Lent. I am in the process of reinventing myself. This, for me, means that some things must die so that other things may live. The cessation of one thing almost always allows for the genesis or regeneration of another.

In short....I will wear the colors black and grey......the black symbolizing the death and cessation....the grey to symbolize the ashes upon which the new things will be constructed.

(More on all that later.)

This will be a very different type of posting.

I will try to do more to explain myself in the coming days.

Day 6 - Feb. 20

Breakfast
1 1/2 cup of hot cereal mix (1/4 cup whole wheat, 1/4 regular oats, and tablespoon of psyllum powder, tablespoon of flaxseed) mixed with 2 table spoons of Light & Fit yogart, 2 tablespoons of maple syrup, a dash of

Day 4 - Feb. 18
Today was my first day back to the gym. It was a welcome return. This is the place where I can really lose myself in what almost amounts to mindless physical activity. Also.....40 -90 minutes on a the treadmill is also one of the BEST ways for me to learn my music. I can listen to reference recordings.....review my excerpts from my own private lessons....or use my self-made index cards to practice language diction via IPA...and work on memorization of the text/libretto. (Perhaps I will post pictures of some of my cards)

In any case....I am waaaaay behind with this Papageno that I am doing for Magic Flute with Opera South. So, needless to say....I will be spending a good deal more time at the gym!

Also....it has been a month since my last workout.....and I have gained 8lbs...LOL....yes....I can laught about it.....cause...I pretty much ate whatever I wanted while home with my family in Michigan.....including Mama's homemade rolls!!

When I arrived in NYC September 17, 2007, I was 242lbs. Just before going to Michigan in late January, I was 222lbs. Now today, after a month of not working out I am back at 230lbs. So.....from now on......I will take a photo of myself EACH TIME I leave the gym.....and I will post it here on this BLOG....for the whole world to see!!! LOL....
."The world is watching!!!".....perhaps that will help with my sense of daily motivation.....so here goes....the first photo....

(By the way....this is the look of consternation......actually....the sun was in my eyes).

I will also up the anty by posting my daily food choices....for the next 40 days......since this is the season of Lent....I have decided that.

  • No processed sweets......starchs....pastas.....enriched flour products.....(except whole wheat bread....or some low calorie rye)
  • No chips or refined sugar products.....No juices from concentrates....
  • No chicken...pork...or beef....
  • No soda of any kind.....
  • No fried foods of any kind......(except fish on occassion...and then....ONLY in moderation)
  • Exercise at least 4 times per week...including at least 30 minutes of cardio
To my closeset peeps out there....(lol...and to those who might would like to be....lol),

I need help with this fitness things....SO....I am requesting/inviting you to help me out by entering into an 'accountability convenant' with me....feel free to... "FLEX me up"....and encourage me to my better self.....lemme know if you got my back. :-)

Thanks and be well
